Michael Sullivan
Michael Sullivan, a bar-certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law and decorated attorney, formed Michael Sullivan & Associates (MS&A) in 1996. Since it's formation, MS&A has grown rapidly throughout California with nine offices state-wide. Prior to starting MS&A, Mr. Sullivan practiced workers’ compensation defense in Los Angeles, handling a full caseload of workers’ compensation litigation resulting in a 95% trial victory rate. In 2011, Mr. Sullivan published “Sullivan on Comp,” a 12-volume comprehensive, objective treatise on California workers’ compensation law. Mr. Sullivan regularly conducts seminars and webinars, and co-authors white papers on significant topics in workers’ comp law. Recent publications include “An Analysis of the New Regulations Regarding Disputes Over Medical-Legal Expense and Medical Treatment,” and “Special Report: SB 863 Five Years Later.” He also speaks regularly at professional conferences including the California Coalition on Workers’ Compensation, the Association of Insurance Professionals and the Public Agency Risk Managers Association. Bartholomew Sullivan II
Senior Partner Bartholomew “Bart” Sullivan II oversees all general operations across Michael Sullivan & Associates. Mr. Sullivan works to ensure the firm provides superior service and maintains its founding values.
Mr. Sullivan is a bar-certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law. He represents insurance carriers, self-insured employers and public entities in all aspects of workers’ compensation, appearing at Workers' Compensation Appeals Boards (WCABs) throughout Southern California. Mr. Sullivan has a wealth of experience litigating workers’ compensation cases, including conducting depositions of applicants, attending hearings, resolving cases via negotiated settlements, preparing briefs and petitions, conducting trials, and obtaining findings and awards. Eric De Wames
Managing Partner Eric De Wames is responsible for Michael Sullivan & Associates' employment law practice. He represents businesses in a wide range of employment and labor law matters, including wage-and-hour issues, and cases involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination and class actions. He is an expert in devising creative and effective strategies for investigating, litigating and negotiating settlements. He counsels business owners, managers and HR professionals on federal and state labor regulations, and is an experienced advocate before the EEOC, DLSE and other governmental agencies. Mr. De Wames has particular expertise advising the restaurant and retail industries, and has served as counsel for small startups to Fortune 500 companies.
An experienced litigator, Mr. De Wames has been honored several times as a recipient of the California Super Lawyer Rising Star Award from Super Lawyers/Thomson Reuters. Sure Log
Of Counsel Sure Log is a specialist in workers’ compensation defense and related labor law issues. He analyzes files for litigation and settlement, conducts research, reviews records to facilitate completion of discovery and drafts a variety of documents, including trial and appellate briefs. He was instrumental in a 2009 case that ended vocational rehabilitation in California.
Mr. Log is also Co-Author of “Sullivan on Comp,” a 16-chapter objective analysis of California workers’ compensation law. Lisa Aguiar
Of Counsel Lisa Aguiar practices employment law exclusively, and represents a wide range of businesses. Ms. Aguiar contributes to growing Michael Sullivan & Associates' employment law division. Represents private and public sector businesses in all aspects of employment law defense, she develops defense strategy from initial claim through trial, with an emphasis on preventing litigation and reducing exposure. She is an experienced advocate for large companies with a unionized workforce. Among her notable successes are favorable resolutions of claims with the National Labor Relations Board and of administrative audits by the Department of Labor, Department of Labor Standard Enforcement and the Employment Development Department.
Ms. Aguiar has experience handling wage-and-hour disputes, claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and violations of the ADA. She has worked on hundreds of cases in both federal and state court, resolving countless cases through mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Ms. Aguiar is also certified business coach, and assists her clients in employment-mandated training as well as workshops to develop the leadership and communication skills of managers and executives.
